Terry Bassett was the visionary, the charismatic leader and a trail-blazing executive of the Live Music & Touring Industry. And, according to those closest to him, he learned about business from his days as a batboy in his hometown of Wenatchee, Wash. Terry Bassett was the creator of Concerts West/Management III - and forerunner to Ticketmaster, and although The Kid from Wenatchee shunned the limelight, many credit him with creating the modern touring business turning it into a turn-key business model. Bassett helped create the industry as we know it by consolidating disparate functions of touring including promotion, marketing, advertising, tour logistics, booking, security and back of house necessities such as lighting, sound and hospitality into a turn-key business model. In the early 1960s Bassett helped discover a young local guitar prodigy named Jimi Hendrix, and his first tour was with the young guitar god. “They’d drive in a station wagon with Jimi, and his guitars and his amps in the back,” recalls John Meglen, president and co-CEO of Concerts West. “They’d get to the building and Hendrix would get out with his guitar and amps and go into the building while Bassett would go to the local printer, pick up their posters, flip down the tailgate and take turns running around behind tacking up the posters saying ‘Jimi Hendrix: Tonight. Omaha Civic Center.’ And those guys started national touring. Nobody had done it before them.” 'He wasn't legendary ... He was mythical!' says Charles Negron, lead vocalist of the rock band Three Dog Night, which Terry helped form in 1968. Among his most famous clients were Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan , The Rolling Stones , Elton John , Paul McCartney and Wings, Eagles , Neil Diamond , Stevie Wonder , John Denver, The Who , The Beach Boys , Three Dog Night , Bachman-Turner Overdrive , Grand Funk Railroad and many more. This documentary will give you an in-depth look into the life of a legend ... or was he a myth?
